B school Admissions

Its admissions time and B school interviews are going on full swing. I attended 2 interviews, each one unique in its own way but very different from what i expected. I expected B school interviews to test a person's presence of mind and ability to make decisions since these two are the basic traits a manager should possess. Keeping this in mind i expected some capricious events which would test our immediate reaction but the interviews were very predictable.

Both these colleges had a G.D which was almost a fish market with each person trying to make a mark for himself. Finally the person with the highest pitch got a chance which was totally unfair. Then came the appalling questions in the interview. Who is known as global hacker??? Whats YAHOO??? Largest and smallest Indian state???? The person who went before me was even more unfortunate. When was WTO formed???? I was balled over(though I answered a few). What are they trying to judge? My G.K? If so why not in some relevant field? I know there is haste in everything but does this include B school interviews too? Does luck have to play a part in everything we do in life? Why dont they give a case study and ask us to solve to find out the type of thinking which we possess?

A complete HR interview can be accepted as experts judge people based on their answers. Will the answer for global hacker reveal anything anything about me?? The colleges seem to be more interested in filling their seat rather than getting the right individuals. The interviews in IIM's might be good but even in a AAA college it is no better. It is high time colleges change their selection procedure so that there is opportunity for the abundant talent present in this country.

  1. True.. Pathetic situation out there for future managers. If you wanna get into some B-school, then you gotta put up with such inane baldies!
Forget not - if u express your temper or displeasure, you are out of the game. Take this as a chance to develop one of your managerial skills - patience ! :)
